Will your PC actually be able to run Monster Hunter Wilds? Watch some crisp 4K footage of Ajarakan and Rompopolo fights as you ponder that 5080 upgrade

The highly anticipated release is just over a month away Monster Hunter Wilds. As with most games nearing their release date, we’re starting to see more and more new things about Wilds to get us excited about.

The biggest draw for a Monster Hunter game is, of course, the monsters. Thanks to IGN, January will bring us new looks at many of the cute (and scary) villains we’ll be featuring in the full game.

The January cover story kicks off with two crisp 4K videos showing battles with Ajarakan and Rompopolo. The two of them live in the oil well basin area of the game, a zone we haven’t seen in previous footage.

It’s not clear if the game was shot on PC or PS5/Pro, but the performance does looks smoother compared to last year’s beta. Still, given how rough the beta has been and the newly announced GPUs from Nvidia and AMD, upgrading your PC for Wilds doesn’t seem like the worst idea in the world.

Ajarakan is a fire-loving, monkey-bar-loving man you may have seen in some of the Wilds trailers. This video provides a deeper look into his lair and some of the weirdness that really comes out when he’s confronted. The hunter here has a Sword and Shield.

Ajarakan begins the battle covered in scales and gradually sheds them to reveal its fiery nature. This is when things get more interesting as his physical attacks are covered in molten lava and become more aggressive.

There is a trap you can activate in one of the arenas where you can lure a monster, if you time it right it can do some damage; like a punch in the face. Hunter switches to Bow halfway through the fight, which is useful as the monster starts to rely more on projectiles.

In the second video, the hunter follows Rompopolo, who has distinct pustules on his body. Rompopolo relies more on making your surroundings dangerous as it lacks the power of more physical monsters. Poison is obviously the key element here.

Expect to be moving around a lot as you wait for an opening, even if it’s a drunken-looking monster to trick you into thinking it’ll be easy prey. We then start with the Sword and Shield again for this before moving on to the Bowgun.

Since the two share the same environment, Ajarakan shows his face to be with Rompopolo, which is always fun to witness. The latter, of course, can’t deal with the sheer power of the former, so he decides to book him.

In case you missed it, Monster Hunter Wilds open beta will return for two more rounds in February. This next beta will have all the content of the previous one, as well as at least one new monster. unfortunately performance improvements and gameplay/animation fixes based on early beta feedback it won’t be in next month’s beta.

Monster Hunter Wilds releases on February 28 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
