How to get the Moon Veil (and what it does)
Where to Find Moonveil and Moonveil Stats/Requirements
The katana is made of glitter.
Masterpiece of the Sellian swordsman.
Light envelops the blade when sheathed, explaining its Moonveil moniker.
The The Moon Veil can be found in Katana too early Elden Ring if you know where to go. Head north from the Third Marika Church The west entrance of the Caeli. Follow the path until you reach the telescope marked on the world map – from here go directly west to reach the Gael Tunnel.
Alternatively, you can look for the orange cave icon on the world map at the border of Limgrave and Caelid. Most caves Elden Ring is highlighted with this symbol on the map with many crafting materials.
Once inside, go to the end of the tunnel to talk to Alexander and continue his quest. Next, fire up Lost Grace and head to the boss room to fight the Magma Wyrm. Once defeated, this boss drops Moonveil.
Beating the Magma Wyrm
It’s a tough fight, though Dark Souls players will immediately recognize this boss’s movement patterns as Gaping Dragon. His charge attack can be blocked in this iconic way where he stands across the room leaving lava behind him. Dark Souls boss: don’t roll, just sprint at a 90 degree angle out of his path as far as possible.

He’ll struggle to turn quickly, but the hitbox on his legs and lava is surprisingly large, so even though the charge itself is slow, it’s important to react quickly. Go for hits only when necessary, switch to his ranged attacks to take advantage of his I-frames, and use those rare opportunities to get in a hit or two.
It’s a grueling struggle, especially for Magic users, but it’s not impossible.
Moonveil Stats and Requirements
Moonveil has a Temporary Moonlight Ash of War, which allows the wearer to perform one of two special attacks once in position. With the light attack button, you’ll send a short-range magic beam horizontally after holding down your input for Ashes of War. With a heavy attack follow-up, you’ll propel a vertical slice of magic a considerable distance. Both of these special attacks deal significant damage and are extremely useful against both groups of enemies and single-target bosses.
Moonveil also deals Bleed damage on hit, though it doesn’t scale with Arcane and can’t be increased. It scales with Strength, Agility, and Intelligence (mostly Intelligence), and its Ashes of War will deal more damage the more Intelligence your character has.

Recommended Moonveil Stat Allocation
Emphasize Agility and Intelligence with a Little Stealth
The Moonveil Katana scales primarily with Dexterity and Intelligence, and rewards a playstyle that combines close-range swordplay with midrange sorcery. Ashes of War, which comes with Mooveil, is a Transient Moonlight that allows players to cast a powerful (and cheap) magic arc. scales with weapon upgrade level. Equipping Moonveil requires at least 18 Dexterity, 12 Strength, and 23 Intelligence, which isn’t much considering the high level of scale and skill that comes with it.
Flexibility not only increases the damage of Dexterity-based weapons but also shortens the spell duration.

Having high energy is essential for survival Elden Ringso be sure to regularly put a point or two into this stat as you level up. Having a high Intelligence stat allows you to use more of Moonveil’s Ashes of War before FP runs out, and dividing by 40 in Dex and 45 in Int makes efficient use of the weapon’s range.
Investing in Arcane is not recommended for this build as it will not increase your ability to deal with Bleed stacking. Moonveil has a relatively low 50 Bleed damage per hit, but it does not scale with Arcane and cannot have Arcane scale, so increasing this stat will not affect Moonveil’s Bleed.
Spells for Moonveil Katana Build
The best Wizards to pair with the Moonveil katana are those who fill in the gaps for what the katana can’t do or complete the move in some way. For example, Magic Glintblade can be useful for Moonveil users, as they can time their melee engagements with the magic’s activation.

AoE damage spells like Rotten Breath Incantation or Meteorite Enchantment are also useful for Moonveil users, though they require more careful stat planning. The Rock Sling is a classic among Wizards due to its effective ability to destabilize an enemy with Physical damage rather than Magic damage, which can create a good opportunity for a series of attacks when you successfully stagger an enemy.
Generally, Magic Glintblade and Rock Sling should be enough to make your Moonveil Katana build more effective. Magic Glintblade should be cast before entering combat or during a lull, while Rock Sling is great if the enemy is easily staggered or resistant to Magic damage.
Sidearms for the Moon Veil Katana build
The best side weapon to use with Moonveil is another katana to unlock the Powerstancing moveset specific to the weapon class. Strengthening Elden Ring allowing players to use defenses, dealing practically double the normal damage.
Pair Moonveil with another Int-based katana like Meteorite Blade to take advantage of shared scaling, or use classics like Blood Rivers or Malenia’s Hand to complement Moonveil’s blood pool.
Moment To come together or side Wakizashi until these will be indispensable for the dual control unit End game Katanas are available. Just make sure to equip the Moonveil in your right hand to use the War Passage Moonlight Ash.
The best talismans for Moonveil
Moonveil’s build is primarily based on speed and quick attacks and regular use of Ashes of War. Useful talismans the brilliance of this style of play. Winged Sword Badge and Warrior’s Scalp are essential for increasing regular and special damage output, while Kariya Filigree Crest and Blood Joy Lord reduce FP consumption and increase attack power when opponents are bleeding.

Warrior Jar Shard (and Alexander’s Shard) greatly increases the damage that weapon skills and Ashes of War can deal. The Godfrey Icon also boosts loaded Spells and Abilities. These two together can do a lot to increase Moonveil’s damage output, but ultimately the FP reduction and Bleed damage boost will be more useful in more situations.
Complementary armor for Moonveil
Ultimately, the armor and appearance of your character is up to you when using the Moonveil, but it’s a weapon that looks best when wielded by someone with light, flowing armor. Trainer’s outfit (modified) similar to a black Gi, although there’s something to be said for classic Land of Reeds armor as well.
You can’t go wrong with traditional Japanese-inspired aesthetics and some careful face customization, even playing the role of a one-armed monster. Ax out of the question.
One of the most iconic armor sets in the game, and a great armor set for a Moonveil Katana build that doesn’t rely on samurai-like gear, is the Karian Knight set. You’ll be similar to the enemy named Moongrum who stands guard outside Rennala’s boss room, but instead of a puny short sword, you’ll be wielding one of the best Intelligence katanas in the game.
