Ahead of Kraven the Hunter’s release this week, a new report claims what we already know: Sony’s live action Spider-Verse is dead

Kraven the Hunter It’s not out yet, but a new report made it pretty clear Sony is currently done with its own SUMC.

SUMC, or the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters, will go down in history for several reasons, including having a ridiculous name, featuring movies about characters no one cares about, and spending a whole ton of money. Kraven the Hunter will still be the latest entry in Spider-Man Without Spider-Man when it releases this Friday the 13th (seriously? That’s the date you picked?), but a new report TheWrap essentially confirming that yes, this will be Sony’s last attempt at creating a connected universe of Spider-Man-related characters.

A top talent agent who spoke to TheWrap said that Sony is “still developing what they want to develop” and that it’s now “about the next Spider-Man movie.” The film will be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. It is planned to be released in July 2026and is obviously part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony is just helping to produce it. Another Sony insider told TheWrap that with Spider-Man 4 in the spotlight, the company will continue to work on its own. Beyond the Spider-Versean upcoming animated movie that doesn’t have a release date yet and Spiderman Blacklive-action Amazon series starring Nicolas Cage as the title character.

What you’ll obviously see here is that the emphasis is on Spider-Man, you know, the character that people actually like, rather than the villains or side characters that people are so familiar with. And after that? Who knows! But I’m sure it won’t be involved Morbius.
