while Kagurabachi Considered a bit of a joke in the west last year, it seems to have been popular enough to get an anime adaptation.
Weekly Shonen Jump has been in a bit of an awkward spot with the big tentpole titles for a while now. Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia it finally ends this year. They may not be part of the new big three Naruto, One Pieceand Bleachbut they’re clearly some of the most popular series around right now, and WSJ didn’t really have anything to fill those spots—until last year, when Kagurabachi debuted. Except, in the west, even before it was released became a massive memeanime and manga fans jokingly regard it as one of the best series ever made.

A year later and to the dismay of some Japanese fans, Kagurabachi is still alive and kicking and now Toyo Keizai Online (via Anime News Network) announced that an anime adaptation is in the works at Cygames Pictures through a co-production between CyberAgent and Shochiku. Toyo Keizai has reached out to both companies, but neither of them have confirmed or otherwise said whether an anime is in the works.
For those who have never heard of Kagurabachi, Shueisha’s Manga Plus describes the story: “Young Chihiro spends her days training under her famous swordsman father. One day she hopes to become a great swordsman herself. A silly father and a serious son… -They thought these days would last forever Now live only for revenge!
Four volumes have been released in Japan so far, with the first finally released in English last November from Viz Media. When the official announcement might come is anyone’s guess, but if you were the one who tipped it off last year, I’d say you should watch at least one episode now.
